TriestEspresso Expo 23 to 25 October

Robeiro Oliveira Silva – ICO: “In Trieste to celebrate the culture of espresso”

An occasion to celebrate espresso coffee with guests from all over the world. TriestEspresso Expo, the most important fair devoted exclusively to espresso coffee organized by Aries, is back for its seventh edition from 23 to 25 October 2014 to honour high quality Italian coffee in all its forms.

Conferences, workshops and tastings in addition, of course, to the blends, the coffee machines, the exhibits and accessories presented, will be the ingredients of Trieste's professional fair. “I am very happy to be attending the TriestEspresso Expo as the Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization - states Robeiro Oliveira Silva -. Italy, a country that has contributed so much to the history of coffee, is a very active member of the ICO and will be hosting the upcoming Global Coffee Forum in September 2015. I thank the organizers of TriestEspresso for the invitation and look forward to joining coffee professionals from all over the world to celebrate the culture of espresso”.

In fact, espresso will be in the limelight for three days, first during the opening conference programmed for 10.00 am on Thursday 23 October at which Robeiro Oliveira Silva will speak on the outlook for next year's coffee production. The following day, Friday 24 October at 4.30 pm in the Conference Hall, there will be a discussion on the candidature of espresso coffee as a UNESCO intangible asset, a goal for which the “Consortium for the protection of traditional Italian espresso coffee”, consisting of important Italian brands in the sector, has begun working.

Those who want to acquire skills and knowledge of this product will be able to follow the workshops and training sessions of the Specialty Coffee Association Europe – SCAE that has planned, among others, modules on “How to taste coffees” basic and advanced, “How to handle the roasting curve”, “How to roast espresso coffee.”

To test your coffee tasting skills, you can try to recognize the various aromas in a cup of coffee at the FIPE (Italian Federation of Businesses Open to the Public) tasting bar, where by filling in a form you will be able to contribute to a survey carried out in collaboration with the Italian Tasters-Centro Studi Assaggiatori whose mission is to highlight the knowledge of the espresso coffee consumer.
Cup tasting will also be the focus of one of the illycaffè presentations for TriestEspresso. The company that represents quality Italian coffee in the world, with its headquarters in Trieste, has planned, with its University of Coffee, a programme of meetings that will take place over the three days of the fair both at the illycaffè stand and in the Hydrodynamic Station pavilion.

Espresso coffee will also be celebrated outside the exhibition halls of the Old Port of Trieste: guided tours of the city's historical cafés, a special tasting in the Grotta Gigante (the largest tourist cave in the world), an initiative of the Trieste Coffee Association and the Trieste Coffee Cluster in the city centre, and “I drink quality coffee” by Andrej Godina and Francesco Sanapo at Caffè San Marco, are designed to involve the public and to get the trade visitors to enjoy the aroma of coffee even outside of the exhibition spaces.
